Sylution
Incorporated
Our company
story begins in 1983 when Kevin Totherow began working in
the Electric Utility industry as a controls engineer
replacing pneumatic control systems with Distributed Control
Systems, replacing relays with PLCs and human-machine
interfaces (HMI).
In the 1990's,
not just Kevin, but many of us at Sylution were working as
engineers installing some of the first process historians,
independent HMIs, using commercial-off-the-shelf hardware
and Ethernet communication to control systems.
Kevin became a
recognized expert in open system HMIs and process
information speaking at TAPPI and ISA functions as well as
authoring several articles and sections in books.
See Articles.
Kevin formed
Sylution Consulting in 2000 to provide expertise and
guidance to clients that were layering new information
systems over existing control systems. Over time it became
apparent that the HMI system was a limited tool. The HMI
controls a machine or process. The next logical step was to
provide the systems to add visualization and control of the
business of manufacturing.
That logical
step was to again layer open Business Intelligence solutions
over existing control and process information systems as
well other data sources to provide the real-time information
needed operator - not a machine or even a process - but a
plant or a manufacturing business.
That is what we
do. Sylution changed our corporation name to Sylution
Incorporated to reflect the fact that we supply the systems
as well as the expertise needed by industry.
Sylution is a
company of
experts and expert solutions in Real-time Performance Management
and Business
Intelligence for manufacturing.
